Latest Concepts and Current Research

This site is intended to provide background on Amniotic Fluid Embolism and give readers information about on-going research about this leading cause of maternal mortality in developed countries.

Amniotic Fluid Embolism Research Honor Roll

The research progress to date would not have been possible with the funding and moral support of a number of institutions and individuals.

NorthShore University HealthSystem Research Institute.

Beyond providing direct, intramural financial support, the institute has mad available it research nurses, IRB, and biostaticians.  The President of the Research Institute, Leopold G. Selker, PhD, in particular, encouraged the search for additional foundation money that was so necessary for this work.  The chairman of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Richard Silver, also provided guidance over the years and helped author one of the papers.

Marvin and Kay Lichtman Foundation.

Serving as the principal source of support for ten years, the foundation’s grants have proven to be the lifeblood of this work.  In particular, the president of the foundation, Mrs. Sheila Burns has been a gracious and enthusiastic supporter of amniotic fluid embolism research.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University.

Thanks go out to John J. Sciarra, MD, PhD, and Sherman Elias, MD, past and current department chairmen who have consistently provided encouragement for academic service and this research, in particular.
