Beyond providing direct, intramural financial support, the institute has mad available it research nurses, IRB, and biostaticians. The President of the Research Institute, Leopold G. Selker, PhD, in particular, encouraged the search for additional foundation money that was so necessary for this work. The chairman of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Richard Silver, also provided guidance over the years and helped author one of the papers.

Established by super-model Cristy Turlington Burns, this film company is producing NO WOMAN, NO CRY, a documentary about maternal health in Baglandesh, Tanzania, Guatemala, and the USA, as well as the efforts to achieve Millennium Development Goal 5 to reduce maternal mortality by 75% in 2015.
Mrs. Turlington-Burns, and producers Clancy McCarty and Dallas Brennan Rexer are helping to publicize the need for more research on AFE through “NO WOMAN, NO CRY.”
